KAPSARC ends its participation in (COP27) as an independent observer of climate negotiations at the conference

The King Abdullah Center for Petroleum and Research (KAPSARC) has completed its participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, where it participated as an independent observer in the climate talks held at the conference in addition to to your participation during the days of the global event with various events and activities.

During his participation, he held four workshops in cooperation with international and local bodies, participated in the second edition of the Saudi Green Initiative, and enriched 6 discussion sessions held in the Saudi pavilion participating in the exhibition and 6 other sessions in international pavilions such as Japan Pavilion, International Emissions Trading Association, Clean Air Task Force and Climate Sessions hosted by The New York Times.

Fahd Al-Ajlan, head of the center, explained that the center’s participation in this session of the conference is intended to support global efforts to address climate change and to clarify the efforts being made by Saudi Arabia in this area. The Center launched a second circular carbon economy indicator and two joint reports with the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology to demonstrate the role of environmental solutions and circular carbon economy in reducing carbon emissions and achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Al-Ajlan explained that this event, with its various activities, provided an opportunity to share knowledge and experience and learn about best practices to achieve safe and sustainable energy without compromising the economic development cycle, as well as an opportunity for the center to present and explain the approach towards a circular carbon economy, which he developed in collaboration with a group of international bodies, as a comprehensive and integrated approach to managing carbon emissions.

For his part, Dr. Fahad Al Turki, Vice President of Knowledge and Analysis at KAPSARC, explained that many countries have set goals for achieving zero neutrality by 2060, and that such sessions, which were included in the Climate Summit, pave the way to achieve this goal by identifying the best initiatives and ways to make this goal a reality, and investing in energy efficiency will enhance the ability to balance the energy transition with economic development objectives.

It is noteworthy that 15 experts from among the researchers of the Center took part in many discussions during the conference, such as the role of environmental solutions in achieving zero emissions, the best innovative solutions in the processing of plastic waste, the possibilities of preserving and enhancing biodiversity. ecosystems and green transition issues in the Middle East, in addition to the Kingdom’s approach to achieving zero neutrality, local carbon sequestration strategies and the role of finance in advancing carbon storage and sequestration mechanisms.

KAPSARC is a consultancy and research center that strives to provide the best ideas and advice, as well as to conduct applied and scientific research aimed at developing the energy system in the Kingdom and participating in the formation of global policy.
