On Sunday, King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan opened the second regular session of the National Assembly, outlining a plan for the revival of his country.
In his inauguration speech, the Jordanian monarch added: “We have come a long way in laying a solid foundation for modernizing the state and setting the course for its second century.”
He explained that “the vision of economic modernization is a must for governments, and it is a yardstick to measure their performance and commitment to the National Assembly”, noting that “comprehensive modernization with its political, economic and administrative directions represents a major national project. “
He said: “Public institutions must adopt a new concept of national achievement, the results of which can be felt by citizens, and we will not allow retreat or hesitation in achieving these goals.”
Speaking about economic modernization, the Jordanian monarch emphasized that it “aims to improve the living standards of citizens and provide jobs and investment opportunities so that vitality returns to all productive sectors.”
In terms of political and economic direction, he emphasized that “it will not be complete without effective public administration that provides the best services to citizens and uses modern technology as a means of accelerating achievements and raising productivity levels.”
The Jordanian monarch emphasized that “the motherland was not built by pessimists and skeptics, but progressed and developed through the efforts of her sons and daughters who believed in her, and that the motherland is not built on fears and doubts.”
He pointed out that “the executive and legislature should cooperate to achieve the set goals and evaluate the progress of work in a comprehensive modernization project to overcome obstacles.”
The Jordanian monarch did not disregard the Palestinian issue either, emphasizing that “it is impossible to bypass the Palestinian issue without a fair and comprehensive solution, which begins with the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
He continued: “We will work to ensure that the Palestinians become important partners in regional projects, and we will not allow them to be marginalized.”
