Klimov: Russia is open to negotiations on security issues
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Andrei Klimov, chairman of the Committee for the Protection of State Sovereignty of the Council of the Russian Federation, said that Russia is open to discussing security initiatives proposed by Moscow with foreign partners.

At a press briefing today, the Senator added: “Russia is ready for the negotiation process, but this must be a negotiation process between equal parties.”

“If our partners come to mind and turn to our constructive proposals, I see real expectations. But if they haven’t thought of it yet, we have to wait until it becomes reality.”

Klimov believes that after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s statement at the Munich Conference on the termination of the Minsk agreements, it is pointless to talk about these agreements, but that “opportunities for dialogue always remain.”

In recent weeks, the situation in Donbass has escalated: the Kiev authorities concentrated most of their armies on the line of contact and periodically bombed the regions of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, using weapons prohibited under the Minsk agreements.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had ordered a special military operation in Donbass.

Addressing the citizens on television, Putin added that “after the Donbas People’s Republics turned to Russia for help, the circumstances required us to take decisive and urgent measures.”
