Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced today Tuesday that the West’s reaction to Russia’s recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics is expected.

Lavrov added that Russia doubts the European Union’s ability to mediate in resolving disputes.
In his speech to the Russian people on Monday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia recognizes the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics from Ukraine.
