US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced yesterday that the United States is committed to using conventional and nuclear weapons to deter and protect South Korea. “Our commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea remains unwavering, and the United States is firmly committed to extended deterrence, which includes the use of the full range of US military assets, including weapons,” Austin said during a joint press conference with his South Korean counterpart, Lee Jong Seop. in Seoul, Conventional and Nuclear and Missile Defense. Lloyd Austin has been the US Secretary of Defense since January 22, 2021 and he was a military general. Born in August 1953, he attended the US Military Academy and Auburn University and was awarded the Silver Star Medal and the Order of Merit.
