British Home Secretary Swella Braverman said yesterday that her government is working to ensure the “security” of three Britons arrested by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The safety of British citizens abroad is at stake and the government is doing everything in its power. The media reported that the three Britons were Kevin Cornwell (53), a charity doctor and humanitarian hotel manager who was not named, and Miles Rutledge, an online influencer.
And the British NGO Presidium Network announced Saturday night that the Kabul-ruling Taliban were holding three Britons in Afghanistan, stressing that they were “working closely” with the families of two of them.
For its part, the UK Foreign Office said in a statement: “We are working to establish consular contacts with British citizens detained in Afghanistan and support for their families.”
“We believe they are in good health and being treated well,” NGO member Scott Richards told Sky News.
It appears that two of these Britons have been held by the Taliban since January, and it is not known when the third was detained. In a tweet, the Presidium Network urged the Taliban to “pay attention to what we consider a criminal.” misunderstanding, and let these people go.”
