A video shared by Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal showing off his football skills with a tennis ball has amazed social media pioneers.
The video, which was circulated on Twitter, received a lot of attention after users confirmed that what the Saudi team presented “didn’t come out of nowhere if the sports minister was so skillful,” as they put it.
As one of them said: “If this minister… it’s normal that our team is so creative,” while another wrote: “That’s why our team has such high skills… shame, Your Highness.”
And this video went viral just hours after Saudi team Al-Akhdar scored a historic win, as FIFA describes it, over their Argentinean counterpart by two goals: one, at the start of the two teams’ journey to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022, the biggest surprises of the tournament, perhaps in its history.
While the young minister confirmed in a subsequent interview with American CNN that he was happy that all his efforts paid off thanks to the performance of the Saudi Arabia national team, emphasizing that he was a global player.
He also made it clear that the Kingdom does not currently have a bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, but the current focus is on bidding to host the AFC Women’s Championship in 2026 and the AFC Men’s Cup in 2027.
He noted that the Kingdom has won the bid to host the Asian Games in 2030, so it is fully focused on how to prepare the stadiums and infrastructure for the two events.
