French President Emmanuel Macron said he could not explain the actions of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.
It is known that Macron held many and lengthy negotiations with Putin, which did not stop with the start of the special operation in Ukraine.
In an interview with CNN, when asked about Putin’s motives, the French president replied: “I have no logical explanation. It seems to me that this is a mixture of resentment, a strategy of hegemony in the region, and I would say, the consequences of Covid-19, isolation.” Macron also called the decision to launch a special operation a “colossal” mistake.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation in Ukraine. Putin defined its goal as “protecting people who were persecuted and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years,” and therefore planned to conduct an operation to “disarm and eliminate Nazism in Ukraine” and bring all war criminals to justice for “bloody crimes against peaceful population” in the Donbass.
