Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has confirmed that midfielder Bernardo Silva will remain with the team despite Barcelona’s desire to sign him.
Barcelona have been very active in the transfer market as part of their efforts to close the gap that separates them from their traditional rivals Real Madrid who have won the Spanish League and Champions League titles. Barcelona have already signed Polish star Robert Lewandowski, Rafinha, Jules Conde, Andreas Christensen and Frank Kessy, and are also looking to sign Marcos Alonso from Chelsea.
Barcelona are looking to include Bernardo Silva, who earlier in August refused to rule out a move from Manchester City, saying Manchester City knew what he wanted. Silva could appear at the Camp Nou on Wednesday in a scheduled friendly between Barcelona and Manchester City to raise funds for the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, but Soriano has confirmed that the Portuguese midfielder will not leave for Barcelona. “Of course I can say that Bernardo Silva will stay at Manchester City,” said Soriano. Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola has also repeatedly confirmed his desire to keep Bernardo Silva in the team. Silva made 50 appearances for Manchester City last season in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and scoring seven goals for the team.
