On Tuesday, a severed human head was found near a courthouse in the West German city of Bonn.
In the evening, passers-by reported the presence of a human body part in front of the entrance to the court, a police spokesman said.
“Shortly after that, we came to the conclusion that it was a human head,” the spokesman said.
Subsequently, a stump, presumably from the same body, was found nearby on the banks of the Rhine, near the historic customs house.
The two places where the body parts were found are separated by a distance of about a kilometer.
Police arrested a 38-year-old suspect nearby who they said was involved in drug-related crimes.
Police added that they believe both the suspect and the unidentified victim are homeless.
