Marriages and divorces have increased in Turkey in 2021, a report by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) revealed on Friday.
The figures show than the number of couples who to have married in 2021 increased by 15.02% compared to the previous one year and likewise, the number of couples who divorced increased by 27.46%.
Last year, 561,710 couples got married. The raw marriage rate or the number of marriages per 1,000 people has been on average 6.68. On the other hand, 174,085 couples divorced.
According to the statistics, more over 33% of divorce took place within the first five years of marriage, and 21% in the six or 10 years. The rude divorce rate has been on average 2.07.
