Argentina’s star Lionel Messi said he didn’t expect Germany to be eliminated from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on goal difference to finish second, while Japan took the lead with 6 points.
Messi said in a press statement about Germany’s exit: “Yes, I was surprised”, stressing that he did not expect the German team to fail to qualify for the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar.
He added that the German national team has a number of outstanding players as it is a young team and said: “The German national team is always among the best teams.”
Lionel Messi lost three times with the Argentina national team to the German national team at the World Championships, in the quarter-finals of the 2006 and 2010 championships and in the final of the Braille World Cup in 2014.
Messi emphasized the difficulty of participating in the current version of the World Cup, referred to Germany’s early withdrawal and said: “It also shows that the name of the team does not matter.”
The Argentina national team will have a difficult confrontation with the Netherlands national team in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which will take place next Friday, corresponding to December 9th.
