At a press conference, United Nations Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq confirmed that the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has decided to allocate $10 million to expand drought response in Somalia, which is experiencing its worst drought in 40 years .
He noted that for the first time since 2017, a catastrophic level of food insecurity has been declared: 213,000 people are in starvation conditions, and half of the population – 7.8 million people – suffer from severe food insecurity.
