The number of refugees fleeing war in Ukraine should exceed 2 millions in the next two days, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Tuesday.

Grandi pointed out that the first waves of the refugees were those with some resources.

“Many come car, and above all they have relationships. They can go where they have family, friends, communities,” the commissioner said. ” This is possible that if the war continues … we will start seeing people who have neither resources nor connections and who will be a more complex issue for European countries manage to go forward and there will be need to be peer more solidarity of all in Europe and beyond,” he said.

By way of comparison, Grandi said that the Balkan Wars in Bosnia and Kosovo have seen “maybe two to three millions peoplebut over a period of eight years.”

While other parts of the “world I saw that”, Grown up added”in Europe is the first time since World War II. »

On Monday, Grandi called it ‘the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War”, in a post to Twitter.
