The creative team behind the record-breaking Netflix thriller His & Hers is officially reuniting for a new project. Writer and director William Oldroyd is set to adapt Alice Feeney’s upcoming novel, Twist, marking a spiritual successor to the crime drama that dominated global viewership earlier this year.
According to Netflix’s official engagement reports for the first half of 2026, His & Hers secured its position as the most-watched series on the platform, amassing 104 million views. The series, which stars Jon Bernthal as Detective Jack Harper and Tessa Thompson as Anna Andrews, outperformed major returning franchises including Bridgerton Season 4 and Stranger Things Season 5 during the same period.

The upcoming adaptation of Twist will see the return of the specific production collective responsible for the success of His & Hers. This includes the production companies Fifth Season, Kristen Campo’s Campout Productions, Jessica Chastain’s Freckle Films, and Tessa Thompson’s Viva Maude. While the production infrastructure is remaining intact, official casting for the new series has not yet been announced, and it remains unconfirmed if Bernthal or Thompson will take on on-screen roles in this specific project.
Alice Feeney’s novel Twist is currently scheduled for publication in February 2027. The narrative maintains the psychological tension found in her previous works, focusing on a flight attendant named Ariella who leads a complex double life involving two different husbands. The thematic parallels of deception and hidden identities establish the series as a “spiritual follow-up” rather than a direct narrative sequel to the events of His & Hers.
William Oldroyd, who previously directed Lady Macbeth and Eileen, will once again lead the creative direction for the adaptation. The project continues a lucrative partnership between the production teams and Netflix, following the significant audience engagement levels recorded for His & Hers in the first half of 2026. Development on the series is expected to align with the literary release of the source material next year.
