Northern Iraq. Turkish warplanes bombard the province of Erbil.

Iraqi media reported yesterday that “Turkish bombardments hit the Siddqan area in Erbil province in northern Iraq.”

The Baghdad News Agency quoted a security source as saying that “Turkish warplanes bombed the Sidekan area in Erbil province,” adding that the target group and the extent of material and human damage are still unknown.

Last Monday, the Turkish army announced the neutralization of two members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

The Turkish Defense Ministry said the two elements were neutralized in the Hakurk region in a military operation following their discovery, stressing that the Turkish armed forces will resolutely continue their operations against the militants, Anatolia news agency reported.

Last April, Ankara launched Operation Claw-Castle against the positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and factions loyal to it in northern Iraq, which Ankara classifies as terrorist entities. Last July, Iraq filed a complaint with the UN Security Council against Turkey and summoned its charge d’affaires from Ankara following accusations from Baghdad that Turkey had bombed a tourist resort in the northern province of Dohuk, killing 9 people and injuring 23. .

The Security Council met at the request of Iraq. In his speech, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called for an urgent resolution obliging Turkey to withdraw its troops from Iraqi territory and the formation of an independent international team to investigate the bombing of Dahuk province in the north of the country.
