The newspaper Gazeta Wroclawska reported that Polish fans displayed an “obscene” anti-Ukrainian banner at a stadium in Wroclaw during a football match with local club Szlinsk.
According to the newspaper, about an hour after the start of the match, a banner with the inscription “This is not our war” appeared on the field outside the goal of the guests, as well as the emblem of a crossed-out trident (the emblem of fanatical Ukrainian nationalists).
The newspaper believes that “such behavior of the fans is surprising, because the club has been involved in collecting humanitarian aid for Ukrainians since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, and the director of the club magazine is a citizen of Ukraine.”
And this is not the “first such scandal”: last fall, Shlinsk fans unfurled a banner with the inscription “No to Ukraine” during the match, causing a furor in the local media.
According to the Polish authorities, 950,000 refugees from Ukraine currently remain in the country, and a total of 2.3 million Ukrainians live in Poland.
