PS5 Games with Tempest 3D Audio to Automatically Receive Dolby Atmos Support
According to Loic Couthier, senior sound design supervisor at Sony, all PS5 games that utilize the console’s Tempest 3D Audio will now also have support for Dolby Atmos. This means players can enjoy enhanced audio experiences without requiring additional patches.
In the latest PS5 system update beta, Dolby Atmos support has been introduced. However, games that specifically require support for this feature will need to be patched individually.
Responding to a question about games like Returnal and the new Atmos sound on PS5, Couthier clarified that there is both an automatic Atmos mix available for all existing games that support 3D Audio, as well as custom Atmos mixes created by the sound team that would require game patches.
To configure your PS5 console for Dolby Atmos, follow these steps: Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Audio Format (Priority) > Select Dolby Atmos.
Sony recently announced that the PS5 has sold 40 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2020, despite facing major stock shortages due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
