Qatari authorities announced on Thursday that the Covid vaccine will not be mandatory for fans who travel to the World Cup final later this year.
The High Committee on Shipping and Heritage said: “The Ministry of Health has lifted quarantine procedures for all travelers arriving in Qatar, whether they are vaccinated or not, regardless of the country of departure.”
According to Qatari authorities, all visitors over the age of six must test negative for Covid before boarding a plane bound for Qatar to compete in the tournament, scheduled to run from November 20 to December 18.
According to the committee, “in the event that a virus infection is detected, sanitary isolation measures will be applied to it in accordance with the procedures of the ministry.”
The committee emphasized that “wearing a mask is mandatory in all medical institutions and public transport.”
Qatar will host the first World Cup in the Middle East ahead of winter due to high summer temperatures.
More than a million people are expected to visit the country of 2.8 million.
