Russian intelligence agencies yesterday announced the arrest of eight people, five of them Russians, on suspicion of involvement in a truck bomb that was targeted on Saturday at the strategic Crimean Bridge.
According to the statement, five Russians and “three citizens of Ukraine and one citizen of Armenia” were detained, while the nationality of these three suspects was not specified.
“The explosive device was hidden in 22 pieces of polyethylene film with a total weight of 22,770 kilograms,” she added.
The statement said the explosives were sent in early August on a boat that left the port of Odessa in Ukraine for a Russian port in Bulgaria.
It was then transferred to the port of Poti in Georgia for shipment to Armenia before arriving overland in Russia.
In addition, yesterday the Russian FSB reported that “the organizer of the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge is the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kirill Budanov.”
“It has been established that the organizers of the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge were: employees of the Central Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, its chief Kirill Budanov, his employees and agents,” the Russian security service said.
