Egyptian football star and captain Mohamed Salah admitted in an interview with the British magazine Forforto that he still does not know if he will renew his contract with his Liverpool team.

But the question of extending his contract, which expires in 2023, has been a concern for Anfield fans since the start of the season. According to English media, the Egyptian asks the club for about £500,000 a week (€595,000), making him the highest paid player in the English Premier League.

Salah said: “I only have one year left on my contract. I think the fans know what I want, but it’s not about the money in the new contract.” world since joining Liverpool in 2017 from Rome, Italy, where he has scored 155 goals in 245 matches so far.

Salah was one of Liverpool’s key players, winning his first Premier League title in thirty years, a year after he also contributed to the Champions League win.

“This club means a lot to me,” he added. I gave everything to the club and everyone noticed it.”

“I had a great time here, winning titles and winning many individual awards. This club is like family to me.”

Salah admitted that his departure from Liverpool would be a difficult decision: “To play in such an atmosphere and see the fans continue to support me, hang banners for me in the stands and cheer the fans on my behalf … It would be very sad.” moment”.

He confirmed that he did not intend to leave his club this summer unless his contract was renewed and said: “I don’t know if I will stay at Liverpool for many years or not.”

Regarding the possibility of contract renewal negotiations failing, Salah explained: “I don’t worry, I don’t let myself worry about anything.

“I expect to stay at Liverpool and I will not leave the team next season if the negotiations fail,” he joked, “but if the club wants me to leave, that’s another matter.”

Salah touched on his 30th birthday the following June, saying, “I didn’t think about turning 30, I asked some players and they said when you’re 30, it’s a different feeling, but I don’t know. I feel good, I enjoy life and football.” And I don’t care about age.

And he added: “There are many top players in the world over 32 and 33 years old, such as (Pole Robert) Lewandowski, (French Karim Benzema), (Argentinean Lionel) Messi, (Portuguese Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Sweden) Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and also (Edin from Bosnia) Dzeko and (Frenchman) Olivier Giroud, they’re doing very well, so I’m not worried.”

Salah concluded his article by saying: “I hope to become Liverpool’s historic goalscorer before I leave the team. It’s hard to score more than 300 goals, but we’ll see.”

Salah is ninth on Liverpool’s all-time scorer list, led by Welshman Ian Rush, with 346 goals.
