Today, a delegation from the Saudi Development Fund, led by the Director General of the Fund’s Asian Operations Department, Dr. Saud bin Ayed Al Shammari, laid the foundation stone for a project to rehabilitate and create facilities adjacent to the coastal zone. Vlora – Orikum Road, Republic of Albania, in the presence of HE Minister of Tourism and Environment of Albania Mirela Kombaro and Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Albania, Faisal bin Ghazi Hefzi, in addition to other officials. Funding for this project is provided by a concessional development loan provided through the Saudi Development Fund for a total of (30) million dollars. The project aims to improve the maintenance standards of the beach area adjacent to the road and its rehabilitation, and includes the construction of a bicycle path, a pedestrian sidewalk and a parking lot for 500 cars, in addition to the restoration and addition of gardens and public facilities, in addition to equipping the facilities with basic services, namely water, electricity and sewerage. In boosting the level of trade and the economy, reducing transport costs, supporting vital direct and indirect job opportunities, and improving the public health of beneficiaries, in order to achieve a number of sustainable development goals, including Goals 11, 15 and 17 on creating sustainable cities and communities, improving life on land, in addition to Strengthening development partnerships to achieve the goals.
Mirella praised the development efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Development Fund in the Republic of Albania since 2009, noting the depth of relations and joint cooperation between the two parties, indicating that this project will promote growth and create many jobs.
Hefzi highly appreciated the importance of this project, which affects the life of the Albanian citizen and at the same time reflects the desire of the Kingdom’s government through the fund to support development projects in fraternal and friendly countries, including the Republic of Albania, which has close relations with the Kingdom.
For his part, Al-Shammari explained that this project proceeds from the interests of the Government of the Kingdom through the Fund in supporting projects and development programs in the Republic of Albania, appreciating the joint efforts with the Republic and wishing the Government of Albania and the people further progress and prosperity, and that this project was a tributary of development.
It should be noted that the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to supporting the development sectors in the Republic of Albania through development projects and programs funded by the Saudi Development Fund. infrastructure sectors and to achieve sustainable development goals.
