A new story shows what kind of actor the MCU could look for to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.
After making his Marvel Studios movie debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania earlier this year, Majors got into trouble when he was arrested for alleged assault. His Multiversal villain is being called the next big bad of the series.
The actor is still sure that “he hasn’t done anything wrong,” but that hasn’t stopped Marvel Studios from talking with him about “potential options going forward,” which could lead to Kang being wholly recast.
Nothing is set in stone as long as Majors’s case continues. However, the MCU leaders are putting together a plan B in case they need to pull the chute.
Marvel Studios is looking for a new Kang.
Jeff Snieder says that if Jonathan Majors had to be replaced as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, Marvel Studios would look for a character like Damson Idris.
Sneider brought up Idris when he was on The Hot Mic show. Idris is set to star with Brad Pitt in Apple’s upcoming Formula One movie:
“Here’s one I wanted to talk about… Did you see who got cast in that Brad Pitt racing movie? … Damson Idris… I think he’s from Snowfall. And so that’s like a big part, right? That is the young, hotshot racer opposite Brad Pitt in this $150-200 million racing movie. That was a big deal that he got that.”
Will Jonathan Majors Be Replaced By Kang?
Marvel Studios is now at a crossroads it never thought it would face.
The MCU put much money into Jonathan Majors, and the next five years of the series will be about him and his Multiversal lousy guy. And because of this, it will only let Major go quickly if it comes down to it. If it does, though, Marvel Studios needs to be ready.
Kang is a big bad, but he has almost endless forms, which is good. So, if a replacement were needed, the story would be to make room for it.
Damson Idris would be a good choice if someone else had to take over. The young actor looks like he’s about to break out, just like Jonathan Majors did when he was first cast.
When Avengers: The Kang Dynasty appeared in theaters in 2025, Marvel Studios could cash in on Idris’s newfound star power. But if there is a change, it needs to happen soon because more MCU projects are being done.
