Square Enix Announces SaGa Emerald Beyond for PS4, PS5, and Switch

Unveiling the Trailer
The trailer for SaGa Emerald Beyond showcases various characters from different worlds, each with their own captivating stories to offer. Players are given the opportunity to choose one of six protagonists to embark on their journey. Guided by the enigmatic ‘Emerald Waves’, they will explore seventeen breathtaking worlds, encountering diverse races and tribes, including monsters, mechs, and vampires, as they shape their own unique narrative. The game builds upon the renowned freeform scenario system that the SaGa series is known for, allowing players maximum freedom in shaping their own story. Decisions and actions will play a crucial role in developing each character’s storyline. Additionally, the trailer provides a glimpse of the game’s turn-based combat system, which is said to be implemented exceptionally well.
Debut Artwork and Character Selection
In addition to the trailer, Square Enix has also unveiled debut artwork featuring all six main characters of SaGa Emerald Beyond. Players can choose to start their journey as one of the following characters:
- Tsunanori Mido: A man with the ability to manipulate animated puppets, known as Kugutsu, which protect his hometown, Miyako City. Tsunanori embarks on a quest to search for four elemental spirits in other worlds to restore order in the spirit realm, as his city faces various supernatural phenomena.
- Ameya: A witch undergoing training in Miyako City. While maintaining her schoolgirl disguise, Ameya is attacked by an unknown assailant, resulting in the loss of most of her magical powers. Her objective is to regain her lost powers and pass her final exams.
- Siugnas: An immortal vampire, the ruler of Yomi, a world engulfed in darkness. Betrayed and dethroned, Siugnas finds himself in Brighthome, the meeting place of deceased warriors. Accompanied by his warrior team, he embarks on a journey to regain his strength.
- Diva No. 5: A mech diva from Avalon, created for singing and dancing. After singing a forbidden song, Diva loses her memories and singing skills, jeopardizing her livelihood. Desperate, she abandons her ‘human’ body, accepting an invitation from a secret society and leaving Avalon.
- Bonnie and Formina: Two law enforcement partners and new recruits to the Capitol City Police Department. They investigate an assassination attempt on the President, with a mysterious triangle as their only lead. To uncover the truth behind the incident, they embark on a journey through other worlds.
The SaGa Projects and Future Releases
SaGa Emerald Beyond is the latest addition to Square Enix’s ongoing “SaGa Projects.” This series of releases includes Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered, Romancing SaGa 3, SaGa SCARLET GRACE: AMBITIONS, the popular mobile title Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe, and SaGa Frontier remastered.
