Sudan’s Social Development Minister Ahmed Adam Bakhit said the country could be declared a disaster area in the coming hours due to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, inspected areas affected by rain and flooding in the White Nile and Gezira states.
Last week, Al-Burhan visited those affected by heavy rains and floods in the Nile state.
In addition, the Sudanese authorities announced that the rains and downpours had killed about 79 people, in addition to dozens of injured, while the army launched an air rescue operation for victims in the city of Al Manakil in Al Jazeera State, Central Sudan.
Flooding and heavy rains have hit several states since the beginning of this month, causing heavy casualties and property damage, and the Sudan Tribune quoted Brigadier General Abdul-Jalil Abdul Rahim, spokesman for the Civil Defense Council, as saying the latest flood statistics were victims issued (Friday) and indicated that 79 people were killed and dozens were reported.
