The Swiss Federal Council said that Switzerland should now, like other countries, do its part to prevent gas shortages, as much as possible, by taking voluntary measures, as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has hit the energy sector hard.
In the summer, the European Commission asked the 27 member states of the European Union (Switzerland is not a member) to cut their gas consumption by 15 percent to avoid shortages and ensure adequate supplies next winter. Three-quarters of Switzerland’s gas imports go through Germany. .
