Maulvi Mohammed Yaqoub Mujahid, Acting Minister of Defense in the “Taliban” government, stated that Afghanistan does not allow Pakistan to continue building fences along the “Durand Line” (de facto border) between the two countries.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Mujahid said consultations are currently underway between senior officials in Kabul.

“We have presented this issue to both the Council of Ministers and the administration. There are consultations on this issue, we will act according to the directives of the administration. We have not allowed any party to plant a fence until now.”

According to Afghan media, residents of areas adjacent to the Durand Line consider erecting the fence an acceptable issue and are urging Taliban officials to take drastic measures to prevent border fences.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, previously said that 90 percent of the fence along the “Durand Line” is ready and has pledged that its construction will be completed.

Pakistan has begun preparing the 2,611km border with Afghanistan, built in 2017 to prevent terrorism and the infiltration of militants from the extremist “Taliban Pakistan”. More than 800 kilometers of the border, barriers and 388 fortifications were built for border guards.
