Gas supplies from Europe were again suspended yesterday via the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which connects Siberian fields with Germany, due to repairs expected to take three days, according to the Russian group Gazprom and the European gas transportation network Entzog. The giant Gazprom group said yesterday that it had “completely” suspended gas supplies to the Nord Stream gas pipeline due to “the start of scheduled work at a Nord Stream-affiliated gas compressor station” in a message on the Telegram app.
Data published by the INTSOG network showed that since early Wednesday morning, the flow of gas has completely stopped through the pipeline, which directly connects the gas fields of Siberia with northern Germany, from where the gas is then exported to other European countries.
At the level of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, Ukrainian authorities yesterday accused Russia of bombing the city where the plant is located.
“The Russian army is bombing Energodar,” Yevgeny Yevtushenko, head of the administration of Nikopol, located near Energodar on the opposite bank of the Dnieper, said on Telegram. “The situation is dangerous because of these provocations,” he added.
For his part, the pro-Kyiv mayor of Energodar, Dmitry Orlov, who is currently in exile, posted photos of the damaged facade on the city council’s Telegram app.
This building is located kilometers from the site of the nuclear power plant, Yevtushenko confirmed that the Russians who control Energodar and the plant bombed the city are the Ukrainian forces, and added: The purpose of this presentation is to offer this to the International Atomic Mission of the Energy Agency.
By this time, an inspection mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency had arrived in the city of Zaporozhye in southern Ukraine, which was heading to the nuclear power plant of the same name, occupied by Russian troops, AFP reporters report.
According to AFP journalists, a convoy of about twenty cars, half of which were with the “UN” logo, and an ambulance drove into the city yesterday afternoon. Zaporozhye is about 120 kilometers from this nuclear power plant, which is the largest in Europe.
The station, considered the largest in Europe, has been occupied by the Russian army since the beginning of March, after the Russian offensive against Ukraine began on February 24.
Kyiv accuses Moscow of stationing hundreds of soldiers and storing ammunition there.
Ukrainian counterattack
On the military front, the Ukrainian army continues its counter-offensive in the south, where heavy fighting has been reported, with President Zelensky saying that “fighting is currently taking place almost along the entire front line: in the south, around Kharkiv (northeast) and in the Donbass (east )”.
In the town of Bereznekhovat, 70km north of the southern city of Kherson, which the Russians have controlled since the start of the offensive, AFP correspondents saw Ukrainian armor drive past and artillery rumble nearby.
Some soldiers were on their way to the front, including a small group waiting for their T74 tank to be repaired after the engine overheated.
“We did them pretty well,” Victor, a 60-year-old infantryman, said, refusing to say more.
For its part, Russia has confirmed since Monday that it has encountered Ukrainian “attack attempts” in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions to the west.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that due to the failure of the Ukrainian attack, the enemy suffered heavy losses, estimated at 1,200 personnel “in one day”, in addition to dozens of pieces of military equipment.
