The Exorcist Celebrates 50th Anniversary with 4K Ultra HD Release
This Fall, in honor of the film’s half-century anniversary, it will be released in 4K Ultra HD and digital formats for the first time. As a result, the iconic horror movie, “The Exorcist,” will be available to frighten a whole new generation of moviegoers. The remastered edition of The Exorcist is scheduled to be published on September 19 and will cost $33.99. It will feature both the theatrical cut of the picture and the extended director’s cut released in 2000. Together, these two film versions contain an additional 11 minutes of video.
Special Features and Bonus Content
The movie’s impending release will have many special features, and it will be available in 4K Ultra HD. These bonus features include an introduction from the film’s director, William Friedkin, and two commentaries, interviews, trailers, and TV ads. The movie will also include a variety of additional behind-the-scenes information, some of which include “The Fear of God: 25 Years of The Exorcist,” “Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist,” and “Raising Hell: Filming The Exorcist,” amongst a great deal of other material.
A Horror Classic and Its Influence
The Exorcist is one of the most critically acclaimed horror pictures of all time and is considered by many people to be among the most terrifying movies that have ever been filmed. The film is based on the same-named best-selling novel. It is important to consider the film’s influence on the category. It is mirrored via its multiple sequels and the ever-growing catalog of possession-themed movies that continue to stalk the big screen, such as Insidious and The Conjuring. But now that the movie is finally making its long-awaited premiere in 4K, viewers will be able to see where it all started when The Exorcist is released in stores this Fall.
Sequel and Future Installments
The movie’s release in 4K Ultra HD coincides well with its highly anticipated sequel, The Exorcist: Believer, which will be shown in theaters on October 13. Ellen Burstyn will reprise her role as Chris MacNeil in the following chapter, directed by David Gordon Green and part of Blumhouse’s Halloween trilogy. In this installment, Chris MacNeil assists a set of parents whose daughters are possessed by a demon. The film includes Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Lidya Jewett, and Olivia Marcum, as well as Burstyn. Norbert Leo Butz also makes an appearance. We won’t discuss any further information about the impending project yet. However, previous rumors suggest that this film will be the first in a brand-new trilogy, that the third and final chapter will be titled The Exorcist: Deceiver, and that it will be released in theaters on April 18, 2025. In the meantime, fans can witness yet another spine-chilling adventure on the big screen during the eerie Halloween season.
