A Palestinian has been shot dead by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed yesterday in a brief statement.
The ministry said: “The martyrdom of a young man, Nabil Ahmed Salim Ghanem of Nablus, was reported when the Israeli occupying forces shot him near the Jaljuliyya gate.”
The official Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) said Ghanem, 35, is one of the workers who travel daily from the West Bank to work in Israel.
The Israeli army said in a statement: “Israeli army fighters spotted a suspect in the sabotage of a security fence at the junction near Qalqilya while trying to cross into Israeli territory.”
“The militants opened fire, there is a victim,” the report says.
The death of a Palestinian came a day after the Israeli army launched airstrikes on targets in the Gaza Strip.
Later on Saturday, Israel’s Defense Ministry decided to “freeze” its decision to increase the Gaza work permit quota it announced on Thursday.
