Ten years after the assassination of Tunisian leftist dissident Chokri Belaid, the country’s Ministry of Justice decided to form a judicial committee to look into the crime and the murder of another leftist dissident, Mohamed Brahmi, a few months later. The judiciary has not yet ruled on the two murders, which were committed by extremists, and the Al-Nahda movement is accused of being behind them. Justice Minister Layla Yaffal has decided to “set up a special committee, operating under the supervision of the ministry, tasked with investigating the murder case and bringing to justice all those involved in obstructing the flow of files and seeking to destroy evidence and influence the trial process,” according to a ministry statement. Leila Jaffal was born in 1960 in the city of Rades, was the first President of the Court of Appeal in Nabeul, Tunisia, has served as Minister of Public Property and Real Estate in the Government of Hisham El Mechichi since August 2020, she has assumed the position of Minister of Justice in the Government of Naglaa Boden since October 11, 2021.
