Turkish world-record-holding diver Şahika Ercümen on Wednesday sent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and first lady Emine Erdoğan a postcard from an underwater mailbox in Sabah, Malaysia.
Ercümen dived deep of 20 meters (65 feet) to reach the underwater mailbox, located off the side of Matake Island in Saba.
Incumbent of 11 different dives world records, Ercümen hopes to raise awareness on preserve the oceans and their biodiversity. She is also an ambassador of Zero Waste programmed by Turkey first Lady.
“We only have one home. In our fight against climate change, we need to protect the worldour lungs, our oceans,” she said.
Matake’s submarines post box was installed in 2006 on the pavement of a wooden boat that has turned into an artificial reef, providing a natural habitat for different sea creatures.
