Two people were killed and another injured in a shooting Thursday in front of a church in Vistavia Hills in Alabama in the US South, city police said, explaining they had arrested a suspect.
The Vistavia Hills Police said on their Facebook page that three people at St. Stephen’s Church were shot dead.
She explained that the assailant entered the church and shot three people, two of whom died.
He confirmed that he had arrested the suspect and that “the threat has been eliminated.”
The shooting took place in front of the church shortly after 18:00 (23:00 GMT) during lunch, according to St. Stephen’s website.
The repeated mass shootings have sparked widespread outrage in the United States, where a majority of the population supports tougher gun laws, but opposition from many lawmakers and Republican voters has long been a stumbling block to major change.
On May 24, 21 people, including 19 children, were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Yuvaldi, Texas.
More than 20,000 people have been killed by gunfire in the United States since the start of the year, according to the Archive of Gun Violence, which also counts suicides in its data.
