Uber revives luxury black taxi in Istanbul

Uber ridesharing app announced on Tuesday the launch of a new line of luxury black taxi in Istanbul who will be available on the company’s application to provide local and foreign users easily access.

Uber Turkey General Manager Neyran Bahadırlı expressed son enthusiasm for the launch of the black taxi service in Turkey. “The service will be offered for operating luxury vehicles who have a commercial taxi plate in accordance with the regulations of the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB),” she said.

“The price will be made according to black taximeter fees, which will be also determined by UKOME. We plan high demand local and foreign Uber users”, Bahadırlı added.

According to announcement made by Uber, those who wish to convert their yellow taxi in black will be offered special vehicle purchase advantages thanks to vehicle finance support and purchase program supplied exclusively for “Uber black taxi owners” by Ford.

“Within the framework of Cooperation, yellow taxis can be replaced by the Ford Custom Tourneo, which fulfills the requirements for black taxis determined by UKOME,” Bahadırlı said.

Apparently, black taxis will be accessible via the Uber app with a limited number of vehicles like of Tuesday and offer a capacity of eight passengers.

In October 2019, an Istanbul court banned access at Uber mobile request after the United Taxi Drivers Association of Turkey sued for justice for unfair competition. The ban was lifted year later.

The company aims to increase the number of registered black taxi in the Turkish market.
