Following international efforts to extend the UN truce in Yemen, Rosie Diaz, British government spokeswoman for the Middle East and North Africa, confirmed that the militias’ refusal to extend the truce was jeopardizing the chances for peace.
And she emphasized in tweets on Twitter on Wednesday that now is the time for Houthi leaders to communicate constructively with the United Nations.
Diaz urged all parties to avoid any escalation, saying that this is the best chance for peace since the start of the war, and this is what the Yemeni people deserve.
big risks
She also pointed out that the Houthis rejected the October 2 extension offer, adding that since April last year, Yemenis have been living more securely, traveling more freely, and oil has been flowing into Hodeidah, she said.
The developments come after UN envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg last week expressed regret at not extending the truce in the country, stressing that doing so would lead to greater risks.
International efforts to extend the previous UN truce, which expired on 2 October, were unsuccessful.
Houthi obstruction

This extension comes after the previous UN truce that came into effect last April (2022) on all fronts of the fighting in Yemen for a period of two months. fuel to the ports of Hodeidah in western Yemen for two months, in addition to allowing two flights to and from Sana’a International Airport per week.
However, last week the Houthi militias for the third time prevented the extension of this truce, putting forward unacceptable conditions.
