Assistant to the acting governor of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Yan Gagin, said about 10,000 Ukrainian troops were blocked in Artemivsk (Bakhmut), which is besieged by Russian forces.
This happened in an interview with Gagin on the Rossiya channel, where he continued that there is still a fairly large garrison in Donetsk, which he estimates at 10 thousand soldiers and maybe a little more, and continued: “I left some parts, but some other units are trying to leave, and our artillery is trying to get them.”
Gagin also noted that Russian forces now control all entrances to the city, so the delivery of ammunition and the transfer of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a “problematic and dangerous” process.
An official from the Donetsk People’s Republic did not rule out that there would be attempts to storm Artemovsk to try to deliver ammunition to the besieged, as well as attempts to escape, including with a fight, in order to get to Shasov Yar.
According to him, the Ukrainians again fell into the circle, as it was in Debaltseve and others.
Artyomovsk is located in the Kyiv-controlled part of the Donetsk People’s Republic, north of the large city of Gorlovka, and is an important supply hub for the Ukrainian grouping of troops in the Donbass. Last Saturday, two Ukrainian officials said they had received orders to leave the city.
