The United Nations refugee agency has published a warning on the deterioration of the situation in Ukraine in face of Russia invasion and urged the neighbors countries to keep their borders open to civilian asylum seekers.
“We have already reports seen of victims and people begin to flee their homes to look for safety”, Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for refugees, said in A declaration.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it had taken steps up its operations and worked with Ukrainian authorities to provide more humanitarian aid. It was also working with Governments in next to countries “call on to keep the borders open to those who seek safety and protection,” It said.
People in the South-East city of Mariupol woke up sound of explosions on Thursday and some started packing their bags to leave after theinvasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Mariupol, Eastern Ukraine main port, was not attacked car the invasion has begun. But locals fear it could become a target for Russia, car it is strategically important and only about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from areas controlled by pro-Russian separatists.
Ukrainian border guards said on Thursday that their country was coming under Russian artillery fire and earth invasion along its northern border with Belarus as well as on its southern border.
