Wildfires broke out in southwest France yesterday, destroying 16 homes, burning 6,000 hectares of crops and forcing nearly 6,000 people to evacuate an area hit by massive fires last month.
France is suffering from heat waves and drought that have sparked numerous forest fires across the continent over the past two months.
Local authorities in the Gironde region said in a statement that the fire is raging and is now spreading to the Landes region, adding that 500 firefighters have been mobilized.
