The Monkeypox outbreak has been confirmed by the World Health Organization as a health threat and a major concern, but it is not currently a global health emergency.
“At this time, the monkeypox outbreak does not constitute a public health emergency of international concern,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at an expert assessment meeting.
The organization’s latest statistics put the number of confirmed cases at 3,200, with one death in the past six weeks in 48 countries where there has been no outbreak of the disease.
