Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe announced today, Friday, that Guinea will forfeit the right to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He explained that the reason Guinea was denied the right to host the football tournament was because “its infrastructure is not yet ready,” according to Agence France-Presse.

“We are not yet ready in Guinea and we must restart the process” to allow potential host countries to apply to host the tournament, Motsebe told a press conference in the Guinean capital, Conakry.

The CAF president told reporters that the African Football Confederation’s decision was actually taken in July.

“I insisted that this letter not be made public and I had to come here in person,” he said.

Patrice Motzepe added that CAF will hold an executive committee meeting tomorrow, Saturday, and will be asked to accept new proposals.

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was scheduled to meet with the leader of the Guinean Military Council, Colonel Mamady Domboya today, Friday, according to the program of the visit sent by the Confederation of Football of Guinea.

Senegal won the current 2022 Africa Cup of Nations by beating their Egyptian counterpart in the final match held in February in Cameroon.

Senegal won the first title in their African history by defeating Egypt 4–2 in the final of the tournament.
