Wolverhampton Wolverhampton are set to close a contract deal with Portuguese coach Nuno Santo, manager of Al Ittihad, after the English club’s management was divided on the seriousness of Santo’s return to his position, which he left for almost 18 months. back.

Although reports in the English press had previously confirmed that there were talks between Wolverhampton officials and Nuno Santo to return to Wolves training, the issue took a different direction after voices against Santo’s return emerged, preferring to seek new coaches to take over the technical leadership.

In this context, Wolverhampton officials have given more room to choose a new manager and have decided to keep current interim manager Steve Davis until early 2023, i.e. until the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Wolverhampton Wolves issued a brief statement last Thursday confirming that current interim manager Steve Davies will remain in charge of Wolves until 2023.

“Steve Davis will remain in charge of the team until 2023,” the official Wolves Twitter account says.

And in the 18 days following the decision to sack Bruno Lage as Wolverhampton coach, Wolverhampton were unable to reach an agreement with more than one coach, most notably Lopetegui, the former coach of Sevilla, the English newspaper Athletic reported. , and Nuno Santo. , the current coach of Al-Ittihad.

Wolverhampton officials have decided that Davies will remain even after the World Cup in Qatar, especially as they believe he has achieved acceptable results with the team in the two matches he has played, winning one match and losing one.

And in a report in an English newspaper, they felt that the placement of Wolves in the permanent place of Steve Davis until 2023 ensures stability in the first team until a permanent head coach is appointed. Davis will continue to work with assistants James Collins and Tony Roberts, with the club looking to expand its coaching staff in the coming weeks to provide additional support.

Chairman Geoff Shea said: “In the short period that Steve and his team temporarily took over the main team, we have already seen improvements in the group, the players responded well to their tactics and the changes they began to implement.

“Steve understands the culture and standards set at this club and we want to give him and his team a clear idea of where they are and give them the best chance of success.

“While there are no outstanding candidates to appoint them as head coach on a full-time basis, we have full confidence in their ability and leadership to continue their role during the World Cup break and into the new year.

“We have no plans to rush to find a new permanent head coach and we will not compromise in any way on our approach to appointing the person we feel is best suited for our club, team and head coach role at Wolverhampton. “. “Leverhampton are 18th in the Premier League and will face Leicester City on Sunday.

On the other hand, the Al Ittihad team is due to travel to the Dubai camp on November 5, provided that the team play three friendly matches to be determined and the camp ends on the 28th of the same month under the current suspension period.
