On Thursday, the American and Mexican Football Associations announced that they had submitted a joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The two federations submitted their draft a month before the deadline set by the International Federation of the Game (FIFA) on 19 May for the official bidding to host the Women’s World Cup.

“The United States has long been the world leader in women’s soccer, and we would be honored to host the first global women’s soccer competition with Mexico,” US Football Federation President Cindy Barlow Cohn said in a statement.

For his part, the president of the Mexican Football Federation, Jon de Luiza, confirmed that the organization of this tournament will help the development of women’s football in Mexico.

“It is with great pleasure that we once again partner with the US Football Federation to host what will undoubtedly be a historic World Cup in our region,” he said.

The United States hosted the Women’s World Cup in 1999 and 2003, but Mexico has never hosted the competition.

If the US-Mexican joint file is chosen, the Women’s World Championship will take place one year after the 2026 Men’s World Championship, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Mexican-American file competes with another joint file between Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as the South African and Brazilian nominations.

The International Federation will select the organizer of the 2027 World Cup at its General Assembly scheduled for May 2024.
