On Wednesday, February 25, 1444 AH, corresponding to September 21, 2022 CE, representatives of the United States of America, the French Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the case of Lebanon, and the Ministers Foreign Affairs of these three countries made the following statement:
The Ministers expressed their country’s continued support for the sovereignty, security and stability of Lebanon, and as the Lebanese Parliament prepares to elect a new President, the Ministers stressed the importance of holding a presidential election on the date indicated in accordance with the Lebanese constitution and electing a President who can unite the Lebanese people and is working with regional and international players to overcome the current crisis. The ministers called for the formation of a government capable of undertaking the necessary structural and economic reforms to overcome the political and economic crisis in Lebanon, in particular the reforms necessary to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

Ministers also expressed their willingness to work with Lebanon to support the implementation of these fundamental reforms, which are critical to Lebanon’s future stability, prosperity and security. They also stressed the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Lebanese Internal Security Forces, which are responsible for maintaining the sovereignty and stability of Lebanon, and the importance of their continuing to play a key role in protecting the Lebanese people in light of the unprecedented crisis.
The Ministers stressed the need for the Lebanese Government to comply with the provisions of Security Council Resolutions (1559), (1701), (1680), (2650) and relevant international resolutions, including those adopted by the League of Arab States, and respect the Taif Agreement, on which national unity depends and civil peace in Lebanon.
