The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) has initiated disciplinary procedures against the federations of Uruguay and Serbia following the reaction of the two teams to their relegation from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened an investigation into the events that accompanied the match against Switzerland in the last round of the groups of the FIFA European Champions League. FIFA said it was looking into several possible violations of the disciplinary code, including “player and official misconduct” and “discrimination”. FIFA cited incidents during the match as Switzerland won 3–2 to advance Brazil to the Group G Round of 16 without giving any details. The International Federation has also opened an investigation against the Federation of Uruguay due to what happened after the end of the match against Ghana in the last round of the group stage. Uruguay beat Ghana with two unanswered goals but failed to reach the round of 16 after South Korea snatched the ticket by beating Portugal 2-1. FIFA accused Uruguayan players and officials of “misconduct” and “aggressive behavior” in a statement released today.
