At least nine people have died as their roofs collapsed as a result of heavy rains in the country’s southwest and other regions, the provincial disaster management agency said.
In a statement, the agency expressed concern about an increase in the death toll after many people went missing during the night as a result of flooding in areas of the southwestern province of Balochistan.
Seven people died when the roof of their house collapsed on their heads during an overnight rain in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan state, and two bodies found near a dam were washed away by the flood. Authorities announced that heavy rains that began on Monday and continued until Tuesday also damaged dozens of homes in Balochistan.
Since June, the rains have killed 38 people and damaged more than 200 homes across Pakistan, including in Balochistan, where a passenger bus plunged into a deep valley in heavy rain over the weekend, killing 19 people.
