Mark Hamill to Bow Out of Star Wars

After more than fifty years of good and loyal service… Mark Hamill, who lends his face to the Jedi Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga, is going to bow out. In a recent interview, the 71-year-old actor said, “I had my time, and that’s good, but that’s enough.” While he leaves the door open, he does not seem convinced. “We never say never,” he explains, “I just don’t see any reason to retake the role of Luke. Let me put it this way: they have so many stories to tell that they don’t need him anymore.”

A Machine too Oily

Mark Hamill refers to the many Star Wars films and series launched by the giant Disney after acquiring Lucasfilm in 2012. Between 2015-2019, the fans were able to discover five new feature films, including three main components – The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker – and five spin-off projects (Rogue One, Solo). Above all, it was without counting on the arrival of Disney+ and its exclusive TV shows which gave the famous universe a full-scale on the small screen!

Four live-action TV series have emerged in the last four years, and it is not stopping anytime soon. During the “Star Wars Celebration 2023,” Disney revealed information on its next series (Andor, Acolyte, Skeleton Crew) and announced a new trilogy of films.

However, this is not enough to please the interpreter of Luke Skywalker, who has repeatedly expressed criticism about Disney’s strategy. In 2019, as part of an interview, Mark Hamill said, “At the time of the first trilogy (between 1977 and 1983), there was a three-year interval between each episode. Now, they are spaced two years apart, with a spin-off in the middle,” admits the actor. He expressed his disbelief, “I said to Disney executives, really? The Solo movie five months after Star Wars 8?”. With series not knowing what to do with it, Luke will probably come out saying his famous “NO”!
