Lionel Messi has surpassed his historical rival Cristiano Ronaldo in goals scored, with 672 goals in 980 matches, compared to 671 goals in 1,130 matches played by Ronaldo in all competitions, with Messi 150 games short.
Messi scored the goal in his team’s victory over Lyon in a match that brought the two teams together on Sunday at the Groupama stadium at the end of the eighth round of the competition.
And it took Messi only five minutes from the start of the match to score a goal against Paris Saint-Germain with a sneaking right from the Lyon goalkeeper.
Messi increased his tally to 6 goals for Paris Saint-Germain this season after 11 games with the French giant, while managing to surpass his eternal rival, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, by scoring more goals than the Portuguese, not counting penalty.
Paris Saint-Germain topped the French league table with 22 points, two points ahead of second-placed Marseille with 20 points, while Lyon’s balance sheet stood at 13 points in sixth place.
