Despite not participating in much of the meeting, Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo gained media attention for a pre-meeting picture of him alongside former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher.
As Carragher stood with former Premier League stars Gary Neville and Roy Keane at Old Trafford reviewing the encounter with Sky Sports, Ronaldo approached the network’s team during warm-ups. Ronaldo immediately went to his former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville and lived warmly, then went to club legend Roy Keane and hugged him, and when Carragher wanted to greet Ronaldo last, he did not extend his hand, but only shook his head, not looking at him. The shot sparked controversy on social media, with fans taking it as the moment when Ronaldo “insulted” Carragher and embarrassed him on live television.
Carragher has been a vocal critic of the Portuguese star since his return to Manchester United last year and urged the club to “get rid of the player” as soon as possible. And the fans considered this frame “revenge” of Ronaldo Carragher in its own way. Carragher is regarded as an icon of the Liverpool club as he represented the club in over 700 games over the course of 17 years and is regarded as one of the Reds’ most representative players.
