Lebanese security authorities have announced the dismantling of the network at Beirut International Airport, accused of several thefts from passengers’ bags.
A statement from the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces states: “A citizen of the administrative-judicial police platoon as part of the security apparatus of embassies, administrations and state institutions filed a claim against an unknown person who, on 03.05.2015, 2022, stole his wife’s jewelry from her bag placed in cargo when she left Lebanon for Turkey via Beirut International Airport, and that the wife only discovered the theft after arriving in Turkey, and the value of the stolen items was estimated at $4,000.
Al-Madaya added: “Members of the aforementioned platoon immediately launched their investigation and as a result of intensive investigations and follow-up, a Bangladeshi worker working for a shipping company named B.M. (born 1987) was suspected,” pointing out that “interrogating him, he admitted what was attributed to him, and that while he was stealing jewelry from a bag, he saw how his colleague committed another theft of one of the bags, and that the latter, nicknamed M.D. (b. 1988 ., Bangladeshi) gave him a gold chain so as not to flaunt it.
The Authority continued its statement by saying: “The latter was delivered and upon hearing he admitted that on previous dates he carried out numerous thefts from the bags of passengers, and as a result, the patrol of the aforementioned group, with the support of the patrol of the Al-Mareij group of the regional Gendarmerie units went to their homes, where they confiscated: sums of money in various currencies, gold and silver coins, two cell phones and an expensive watch.”
