Security Council: Houthi attack on Daba threatens international shipping

The UN Security Council condemned on Wednesday evening the attack by the Houthis on the Yemeni port of Al-Daba using drones on October 21.

In a statement released by Ireland’s mission to the UN on its Twitter account, the council said the Houthi attack on the port of Dabba “poses a serious threat to the peace process and stability in Yemen.”

The council added that the Houthi attack threatened the security and freedom of navigation guaranteed by international law.

He said any increase in security would “exacerbate the suffering of the Yemenis,” noting the need to stop such attacks by the Houthis.

The members of the Security Council reiterated their support for United Nations Special Envoy Hans Grundberg in his efforts to reach a negotiated and comprehensive political settlement, led by Yemen, based on agreed terms of reference.

This comes after the Yemeni cabinet meeting Wednesday in the makeshift capital of Aden called on Yemen’s counterterrorism partners, countries around the world and the international community to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. , prohibit contact with him and exhaust his sources of funding.

The cabinet also heard reports on the impact of the Houthi terrorist attack on the Dabba oil ports in Hadhramout and the Radhum oil port in Shabwa, as well as the continued threats and options for dealing with terrorist Houthi militias to protect the interests of the Yemeni people, global energy supplies and international shipping. .

The Yemeni Cabinet approved a series of decisions and measures aimed at containing terrorist threats from the Houthis, and what it takes to increase combat readiness and readiness at all costs, in agreement with the countries of the Legitimacy Support Coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates .
